Eddie Arroyo

Spinello Projects presents Talking to Real Americans, a gallery-wide solo exhibition by Eddie Arroyo. This exhibition is a continuation of Arroyo’s documentation of scenes and subjects in flux within the day-to-day reality of living in an American capitalist hegemony. The scenes and subjects in these paintings depict people contending against imposed power and places nascent with this power. In this presentation, several bodies of work exist. Some portray specific actions and interactions that Arroyo himself has been involved in or witnessed with members of different communities and grassroots organizations around the country. End Title 42, Black Lives Matter, and FTP are some of the actions represented in these works. Some paintings record buildings and places fraught with deterioration and speculative change, Chinatown, Little Haiti, Allapattah, and the Everglades, for example.
